Dance Class Descriptions
Ballet
This classical dance form provides the technical foundation for all other types of dance. Classes are structured with exercises performed at the ballet barre, steps done in the center, and movements done traveling across the floor. Ballet students develop strength and flexibility as well as musicality and grace, it is taught to all ages at a variety of different levels.
Pointe
Pointe is offered to our advance ballet students. In Pointe students will work on further developing their ballet skills while wearing Pointe shoes.
Jazz
Jazz is an up-beat dance style with classes focusing on progressions across the floor and a combination done in the center. Students learn basic techniques based on ballet and modern dance. Through daily warm-ups and exercises students gain strength, flexibility, endurance, and coordination. Musicality and performance skills are learned through a series of dance combinations.
Tap
Tap dance is a percussive dance form that focuses on rhythm and musicality. Classes consist of a warm-up, progressions, and combinations done in the center. Students also work on their improvisational skills and developing original phrasing and choreography.
Hip Hop
This fast paced class incorporates popping, locking, house dancing, krumping, and even some break dancing technique. Class consists of a warm-up, progressions, combinations in the center, and time to work on student's improvisational skills.
Contemporary
This class introduces fundamental principles of modern dance and will build each week. Basic movement concepts such as alignment, musicality, and center work will be taught.
Lyrical
Classes are conducted in such a way that a story is conveyed to the audience through physical dance movements. The student has the ability to express him/herself openly and without reservation. Our lyrical classes combined dance movements such as ballet, jazz, and modern dance. These learned techniques when applied, show an intense outpouring of emotion.
Poms The class teaches sharp, clean motions through across the floor and pom combinations. This class also concentrates on the many “skills” that are required by dance teams such as jumps, leaps, and turns & using poms.
Combination Classes/Creative Movement
Combination classes are geared towards the younger dancer. They learn the fundamentals of two styles of dance with a focus on overall coordination, locomotive skills, and learning proper dance class etiquette. Class also incorporates time for creative movement.
