Performances and Dance Competitions
Regardless of the setting or the audience, our dancers view every performance as an opportunity to celebrate their gift and to share the joy of dance with their audience. Performances and competitions will be held throughout the year and are both equally important and completely necessary as a part of each ADC dancers' dance education. A schedule will be passed out with the dates as soon as they are available. All regional competitions will be held on weekends. Exact days and times will not be available until one or two weeks prior to the competition weekend; therefore, it is recommended you block out the whole weekend until specific days and times are given. Every ADC dancer is required to be at their weekly dance classes and company practice prior to scheduled competitions and performances or they will not be able to perform. We are expecting every ADC dancer to be at every performance this year.
A favorite quote of mine: "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do." It's okay to want to win, we're human, but whether we win or lose, you must be able to look at the glass half full and not half empty! If you dwell over the end result whether it is good or bad, you miss the experience, the mini "WOOHOOS", and the chance to have learned something new. Winning is not the only measure of success. Each loss is an opportunity to find out more about how to improve and be better prepared for next time. Competition can sometimes feel like risky business, since the outcome isn't up to you alone, so you must concentrate on what you can control.
On occasion, a venue will pay ACTION DANCE CREW or give a donation for our performance time. This money will be put towards our fund raising efforts. Venues that pay us have more say in what kind of dances they want performed at their event. With that said, I will do my best to make sure every ADC dance has an equal amount of performance time, but there are no guarantees. If one jazz dance is performing 10 times and the other jazz dance is performing only 9 times, this should not be an issue.
